At Danesholme Junior Academy we recognise the continually evolving technological world our young people live in and we aim to equip our pupils with the life skills, knowledge and confidence to enable them to utilise technology in a safe and responsible way. Our Computing curriculum is designed to give the children the opportunity to:
become digitally literate and competent users of technology,
develop creativity, resilience, problem solving and critical thinking skills,
support their learning across the whole curriculum,
develop their understanding of themselves as individuals within their community but also as members of a wider global community and as responsible digital citizens,
We aim for our pupils to be able to operate in the 21st century workplace and to know studying computing will open up many career opportunities for them as adults.
Teach Computing provides the framework for:
progression across the years in all the areas of computing,
topics which focus on computer science, information technology and digital literacy,
lessons which can be supported by additional online resources,
children to experience using a range of programs in their learning.
Staff plan opportunities to incorporate technology throughout the wider curriculum and this is supported by technology in the classrooms.
We follow the National Curriculum for Computing. At Key Stage 2, pupils should be taught to:
- design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts
- use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output
- use logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work and to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs
- understand computer networks, including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the World Wide Web, and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration
- use search technologies effectively, appreciate how results are selected and ranked, and be discerning in evaluating digital content
- select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information
- use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; recognise acceptable/unacceptable behaviour; identify a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact.
