Computing

Intent

At Danesholme Junior Academy we recognise the continually evolving technological world our young people live in and we aim to equip our pupils with the life skills, knowledge and confidence to enable them to utilise technology in a safe and responsible way. Our Computing curriculum is designed to give the children the opportunity to:

  • become digitally literate and competent users of technology,

  • develop creativity, resilience, problem solving and critical thinking skills,

  • support their learning across the whole curriculum,

  • develop their understanding of themselves as individuals within their community but also as members of a wider global community and as responsible digital citizens,

We aim for our pupils to be able to operate in the 21st century workplace and to know studying computing will open up many career opportunities for them as adults.

Implementation

Teach Computing provides the framework for:

  • progression across the years in all the areas of computing,

  • topics which focus on computer science, information technology and digital literacy,

  • lessons which can be supported by additional online resources,

  • children to experience using a range of programs in their learning,

  • every class to have a timetabled opportunity to use the computers in the ICT suite.

Staff are encouraged to incorporate technology throughout the wider curriculum and this is supported by technology in the classrooms. Our after-school Code Club enables children to learn new skills, develop on previous skills and explore coding in a relaxed, enjoyable environment.
