Goodnight Mister Tom - A Novel by Michelle Magorian
World War II tale in which a curmudgeonly widower living in a small village takes in a nine-year-old evacuee from London. The widower soon realises that his young charge has had a difficult life in London at the hands of his strict mother. He sets about giving the boy a new lease of life, teaching the youngster to read, write and draw, but as his tenth birthday looms, the child is summoned back to the city.
Year 6 learn about World War II through the eyes of Willie Beech, a young evacuee from London. Our writing is created by the children's experiences of the novel.
We have some pupils who are self-isolating at the moment, so we will provide resources here every week that link to the curriculum we are following in school.
